6. REFLECT

Redesigning the NY Aquarium website was a big undertaking as the orignal website had a lot of issues: confusing navigation, inconsistant UI, clumsy content, and a dated feel overall. I did my best to address those issues as a whole given the time I had for the project but could definitely see additional progress being made with more resources.

Challenges + Future Iterations

Reorganizing the large amount of information for the NY Aquarium was a challenge. I focused on navigation since that is what users would immediately encounter when browsing the site, but wil addtional time and resources I would like to address the information architecture on other areas of the site as well. Another challenge was the lack of photos available from the aquarium, of both the animals and the space itself. Since users really enjoyed having media on the site, I tried to prioritize featuring things that would have visual interest. For future iterations, there would be high value in addressing how to make the large areas of text more digestible like with icons. Users would also be more interested to spend time on the site if there are more digital experiences offered like a 360 degrees virtual tour of the exhibits or animal pages with facts and video, etc.
Next Steps

  • Re-test revised prototype
  • Hand off to team for implementation
  • Launch redesign
  • Assess impact, continue to update and improve features
